Firm Offers Virtual Atlanta
Office For Foreign Companies
2/17/2006 3:04:27 PM - Nema
Etheridge for GlobalAtlanta
Janet Keene,
founder of the Atlanta-based virtual office supplier, KeeneTeam, is ready to
work with foreign businesses interested in establishing a presence in Atlanta,
she told GlobalAtlanta in a recent interview.
Founded in 1999, KeeneTeam helps companies looking to outsource bookkeeping
responsibilities, computer programming work, graphic design projects or
secretarial work, to find temporary, Web-based staff for their business needs.
Most recently, KeeneTeam announced that it could help foreign-based companies
appear to have an office in Georgia by assigning them locally based telephone
numbers and mailing addresses and offering them a personal secretary to field
business inquiries.
Ms. Keene said that while most of her corporate clients have been U.S.-based
and come to her through referrals, her part-time staffers come from all over
the world and learn about her company through the Internet.
As a result, she has been in contact with approximately 1,500 part-time
employees from all over the world, who always submit their job applications
over the Web.
“When I started this company, I knew there were a lot of people out
there—especially stay at home moms—who could offer good
administrative assistance skills on a part-time basis,” she said about
the origin of her company.
Checking the accuracy of job applications and quality of work coming from the
part-time staffers has been a priority for Ms. Keene, who said she quickly
dismisses staffers with poor spelling or lack of grammar skills.
Some of Ms. Keene’s local clients have included the Coca-Cola Co., which
needed outsourced work for a graphic design project, AGO Logistics LLC, which
needed part-time staffers to lead computer-training programs and the City of
Atlanta, which needed extra staffers for a data entry project.
Ms. Keene, a native of Long Island, New York, arrived in Atlanta in 1992 and
worked five years with the Southern Education Foundation, which promotes
education in the Southeast, before starting KeeneTeam.
Ms. Keene is also the acting president of the International Business
Association, which was founded in 1993 to promote international business ties
in Atlanta.
